Our first year programmes and our second year programmes both have seven PLD sessions throughout the year. Each session/mentoring focus has been carefully thought out and scheduled at a time of the year when it is most needed. At the start of the year, new teachers receive important advice and guidelines around what an effective Induction and Mentoring Programme involves, in alignment with the learning setting they are in. Key topics on this first session encompass effective classroom management, routines and organisation, establishing positive, connected relationships and embedding a growth mindset. Also prioritised are up to date literacy and mathematics approaches; we feel privileged to have a range of facilitators on our programmes who are accredited by the ministry as well as facilitators/teachers and DPs who are in schools on the front line!

We believe in providing beginning teachers with PLD in Science/STEM and Social Science as well as The Arts; visual art, music and movement, drama (Circle Time coaching) P.E and EOTC. A point of difference of our programmes is that we run a session on dyslexia, providing practical strategies and insights. We also run sessions that provide current information, guidelines and practical tools around Neurodiversity/Neuro-advantage/Thinking and Questioning Skills/Gifted Learners and ELLs (ESOL). Included in our programmes is ’ Te Reo and Tikanga in Action: A PCT Kete for the Classroom’; we continue to emphasize the importance of honouring Te Tiriti in our daily practice to teachers starting out in this profession.
By clicking on 'Learn more' on the programmes page, you are able to access all dates, course sessions and who is presenting to help you plan your PCTs Induction and Mentoring programme and goal setting for the year.

Each session is led by a variety of experienced and approachable facilitators, bringing pedagogy and practical strategies together ensuring teachers are well-equipped with the essential knowledge and skills needed to foster positive learning environments and programmes in their education setting. You can view detailed information about all of our facilitators by going to the 'Our Team' section on the website.

Collaboration and networking underpins this programme and at each session there are regular opportunities for teachers to discuss, review, adapt, reflect and continuously develop their practice.

Jo Williams provides consistent on-going mentorship all year in this programme for every PCT, where teachers can find support either face to face with Jo, through email, text or Zoom when required. She offers additional mentoring support for new entrant teachers. Jo brings in Nicky Fleming during the year to offer a DP perspective as well as specifically offering mentoring to Intermediate teachers if required. Glenn Pressnell is also available for mentoring support and is our person in the wings to keep us updated regarding I.T/AI/Digital Technology.

We are a dedicated and hardworking team and believe in what we do; growing our future teachers!

Why Choose Us

So what do we feel are our points of difference compared to other PCT programmes out there?

  • Two Locations to choose from, identical programmes.

  • Many school leaders with whom we have built relationships with over the years have cited that our Manukau/North Shore PCT 'programme package' offers valuable on-going mentorship all year, at every session. Whoever the presenter/facilitator is on the day to deliver the main content of that session, the mentor is also available. Outside of these sessions, additional mentorship and support is available when required.

  • Teachers benefit from working with the same group of teachers in their group throughout the year enabling them to flourish in a trusting, collaborative, networking environment. Teachers (from all over Auckland) move through this journey together.

  • School leaders have also praised the way our programmes engage a varied range of inspiring facilitators, rather than only focusing on using one or two facilitators to run a 'programme' all year.

  • In addition, we are proud that our Manukau/North Shore PCT programmes deliver current and effective literacy and numeracy sessions as well as covering the entire curriculum. Nothing is missed out so that beginning teachers build a good foundation in every curriculum area and know how to adapt and work-smart.

  • Responding to feedback from school leaders and teachers, our programmes include current and practical sessions on neurodiversity and neuro-advantage, including information and guidance around dyslexia.

  • After each session, our facilitators share an abundance of resources/ideas with the teachers; these go into a shared group Google Drive. We encourage our teachers to share these valuable resources with their teams back at school. We enjoy the idea that each school that has enrolled a PCT with us has invested well and that this investment benefits the whole school community.

  • To help schools plan their release for teachers:

Sessions for North Shore first year 0-3 teachers run on a Tuesday

Sessions for North Shore first year 4-8 teachers run on a Wednesday

Sessions for Manukau first year 0-3 teachers run on a Wednesday

Sessions for Manukau first year 4-8 teachers run on a Thursday

Sessions for Manukau second year 0-3 teachers run on a Wednesday

Sessions for Manukau second year 4-8 teachers run on a Thursday

  • One Zoom session is offered for our first year teachers during the year to take the pressure off and help make the programme more accessible, accounting for beginning teacher illness, less travel and for ease organising release time.

  • More Zoom sessions than face to face sessions are offered to our mid-year beginning teachers because we understand the intensity for these teachers starting at this mid point of the year; having a compact and rapid learning curve in two terms. We also often have teachers from further afield join this programme because Zooms are so accessible.

  • Feedback from previous participants have said that it is convenient, stress-free and reassuring that we use a prime location and that we use the same location and venue all year with straightforward parking on-site whether coming to South Auckland or the North Shore.

  • All sessions (apart from zooms) run from 9.30am – 2.30pm to avoid peak traffic times.

  • We provide tea/coffee on arrival, a morning tea and a light lunch.
